Nature on the fly
Flight enthusiasts rejoice - Trinidad is a birdwatcher's paradise as many species of exotic birds call the island home. The Caroni Bird Sanctuary, located just nine miles southeast of Port of Spain, is the place to spot Trinidad and Tobago's national bird, the scarlet ibis. The Asa Wright Nature Center, about 90 minutes northeast of Port of Spain, lists over 400 species of birds, and many other animals live within its natural reserve.
To beach their own
A scenic, hour-long drive through the mountains brings visitors to Maracas Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in Trinidad. Thanks to its abundance of food vendors, this can't-miss beach is also a can't-miss for local bites.
Time travel
Beyond the natural beauty of Trinidad and Tobago, there is plenty of history to explore. Fort George (Trinidad) and Fort King George (Tobago) allow visitors to soar into the colonial periods of the island. Both forts also have spectacular views of their surrounding areas and locals recommend visiting during the late afternoon hours for an unforgettable sunset.
