Many Grains of Salt
A religious structure and an architectural jewel, the Salt Cathedral is undoubtedly one of Colombia's wonders. Originally built between 1807 and 1823, this underground Roman Catholic Church was carved into a salt mine nearly 600 feet into the Zipaquirá Mountains to honor the path traveled by Christ on his way to the crucifixion. Journey through the winding tunnels as you discover 14 small chapels representing the various Stations of the Cross. The majestic crosses, altars and pews in the Salt Cathedral appear to be made out of marble, but they are actually made out of salt. Masses are held here every Sunday.
