Founded in 1706, the main plaza is now a 4 block radius with the original mission church, the San Felipe de Neri Church and has high drama western shoot-outs performed by local actors. The area does include restaurants, shops, and art galleries, some with the works of local artists.
With the old neon motel signs, restaurants and period architecture, the legendary Route 66 is a popular scenic drive dotted with unique and funky roadside attractions.
Balloon Fiesta Park
Every year in early October, see hot air balloons as far as the eye can see, including the spectacular Sandia Mountains. When the Fiesta is not in session there is the Balloon Museum with a restaurant that looks out over the balloon launch area.
